General Description: Amargosa Toads (Anaxyrus nelsoni) are small toads with dorsal blotches and short legs and arms.
Taxonomy: Order Frogs and Toads (Anura); Family True Toads (Bufonidae). Formerly Amargosa Toad (Bufo nelsoni).
Technical Description: Size small (2-3 in). Resembles a Western Toad, but head narrow, snout long, skin smoother, and limbs short (elbow and knee do not touch when body is held straight). |

Diet: Insects.
Habitat: Springs and outflows, often with riparian vegetation (e.g., Cottonwood Trees) at the interface between the Great Basin (northern) and Mojave (southern) deserts.
Range: This species is restricted to a few spring areas and ponds in and around the town of Beatty, Nye County, Nevada. |

Breeding: Breeds March to April. Amplexis pectoral.
Similar Species: The Western Toad is larger, head broader, snout shorter, limbs longer, feet larger with more webbing, more warts.
